Flow Blue Mustard Pot & Silver Spoon Italian Urn
ITEM -
Mustard Pot and Leopards Head Hall Marked Spoon
DATE -
c1840
PATTERN -
Italian Urn ( Petra Williams Book)
MAKER / ORIGIN -
Possibly Ridgway
SIZES -
About 2 ½ inches to the finial on the cover 3 ¾ inches across including the handle
Hard to find item in true flow blue - so a great addition to any collection
Condition of Item
It looks as if one corner where the spoon slots in on the cover has been chipped and I think at some time it may have been coloured with a gloss paint - I do not think it was always this way - although on the opposite side you can see tiny indents that were glazed over at the factory - but the colour match is quite good and with the spoon in place it really does not show - plus it does not affect the use of the pot
It has a very rough glaze especially on the base but this is due to the crudity of the glazing at the time and is part and parcel of the charm of the early pieces with a date of 1840 this may have been a piece of flow blue where they were still experimenting with glaze
The silver spoon I think is earlier than the pot but it is nice to have and adds to the piece
Price :$85
